When it comes to connectivity, few people can match Jari Arkko. He has designed a network inside his three-storey home near Helsinki, Finland, that rivals some small towns for delivering convenient services.

"Our family lifestyle is such that we wanted to reach each other no matter where we were or what we were doing," says Jari Arkko. "My wife and I work from home, so we need a fast connection. We also travel a lot. So it's good to know what's going on in the house. We can see if there are leaks, or if doors have been opened, so we know that the kids are coming and going. It gives us confidence."

Arkko has a number of homemade solutions, but he also uses technology that is available on the market.

His Ericsson Connected Home gateway gives him a firewall for security, extra telephone connection, and access to his personal library of music and movies from any room in the house.

"I like that we can access all our media no matter where we are," says Arkko of Ericsson's solution.

Ericsson launched its Connected Home gateway solution in 2009. Having connectivity everywhere is part of Ericsson's vision that 50 billion devices will be connected by the year 2020.
